Newb Advice - Pally / Tradeskills / etc
Not really new I guess, I had a couple of 60's long ago. I haven't played in more than a year and just picked WoW up again.
I went to a new server with some friends from work. I work and am married so I want to just play one toon now. I went with a Blood Elf pally because I've never seen the BE starting area or ever touched a Pally.
Seriously, I'm going to get a bout 15-20 hours a week to play at most, mostly in 1-2 hour spurts. Probably 95% of the time I'm going to be solo. A pally seems like it should solo well (I hope).
For PVE leveling and mostly solo play, where should I start sticking my talent points?
For cash money and thinking that I won't be able to instance run much or raid, I was thinking about taking up alchemy/herb and going for the transmute specialty. At least I read it doesn't have the instance material requirements that other professions do and makes a lot of money.
Anything else I should know about a Pally - or how to do as much as possible quest wise with a Pally? My old 60 rogue was amazing for getting solo quests done (as well as my hunter), but I didn't want to go those routes again.
Any tips appreciated thanks!

Long Island Retro is the best leveling spec (IMO - I did that with my main, a pally).
For gold, gathering are the better skills.

i recommend the AoE grind spec, pretty much all prot, you should be able to find a guide about it on the pally forums. i know from 1st hand experience how well it works, i can solo 8+ mobs at once, 1-2, maybe 3 elites at a time. only downside is you have to be probly about level 30 before you can do it and then its hard to do in the outlands, but the 30 levels in between is easy.
i cant help you with professions, never been to good with those....

As far as professions grab two gather skills, mining/skinning/herb. Good money maker once you get in the mid levels of those professions.
As for leveling. I did ret up until level 60, didn't like it much. Kill about 3 mobs then sit and drink, rinse/repeat, and the damage output wasn't anything spectacular.
I switched over to holy/ret and became a shockadin. Really depends on lots of +spell damage gear which isn't that hard to acquire. Head over to the wow paladin forums for talent builds.
I am now the guild main healer 40 in Holy and rest in Prot for Kings.

I went retribution until 32, and then went wth a protection build. I stayed protection until 70 and can attest to the AoE grinding abilities with 3-10 mobs on you. It can be fun and exciting (especially on a PvP server ). I had no problems leveling and completing quests. The only time you really have problems is with casters.
The downside is the slow DPS you will be grinding on mobs for a long while. There are a number of guides (Here is one »www.almostgaming.com/wowguides/p···nt-guide) and some videos on YouTube for the grinding aspect. (Here is one
»www.youtube.com/watch?v=reP8JL8nhcA
)
The build I was using as protection was the “Sword & Board” which I fleshed out with the holy tree for reduced interrupts on healing.
I also started to team with a mage around level 28ish, and we often leveled together up to mid 60s. I would round up all the mobs and he would let them beat on me a bit to build up agro and then unleash…
Was fun and we still do grinding sessions today (scryer rep in netherstorm). Though at 70 I switched over to a holy build and just let them mobs beat on him for a change. A good DPS partner makes the grinding much faster, but it is defiantly something you can do solo as well. Just play around with your seals to control your health/mana.
As far as professions, I was a miner/Jewelcrafter until about 65 then I dropped mining and picked up Blacksmithing. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone miner Blacksmith from the get go, and power leveled Blacksmithing such that I could craft usable gear form myself. Though the profession I do make the most cash from is my Alchemist and then second my tailor selling bags.

I've leveled a protection paladin to 68 in short spurts. I can take on five or six mobs at my level at the same time and win. Very easy spec to level. Plus you have the ability to tank or heal in any five man instance.

...in the expansion content. The leveling gear TBC doesn't really leave much other than prot and/or ret.

It was pretty easy to level my Pally on Scilla - Suchanewbie to 70, in fact it was a race between me, and two other guys, lvltwo, and iqrado to see who would get to level 70 first. Iggy had a head start of about 20 levels, in the end I hit 70 first, next was lvltwo, and last was iqrado.
The video that veunad posted is of a level 70 pally who is Kara keyed as he has the sword you get from Keepers of Time when you are Revered with them, and gwad knows what else, but if you were to hit 70 and do what he's doing on the without gearing yourself chances are you'll be dead.
To be a really good prot pally requires countless of hours running the instances, raiding, etc just so you can get the gear you need to be decent or great! I don't that kind of time as I would prefer to be doing other things like having sex with my GF!
